What is Montessori?

  • "The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind." – Dr. Maria Montessori

    • Montessori education is a child-centered approach that fosters independence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. Developed by Italian physician Dr. Maria Montessori over a century ago, this method is rooted in the understanding that children learn best through hands-on experiences, self-directed exploration, and collaboration. In a Montessori environment, students progress at their own pace, guided by trained educators who support their natural development.

    • Research has shown that Montessori-educated children often demonstrate strong academic performance, social-emotional skills, and problem-solving abilities. A study published in Science (Lillard & Else-Quest, 2006) found that Montessori students outperformed their peers in reading, math, and social development. Additionally, the American Montessori Society highlights benefits such as increased executive functioning skills, creativity, and intrinsic motivation.

    • In a Montessori classroom, mixed-age groupings encourage peer learning, and carefully prepared environments provide students with opportunities to explore subjects deeply. Montessori materials are designed to be self-correcting, allowing children to develop confidence in their abilities through independent discovery. This approach not only nurtures academic success but also cultivates a sense of responsibility, resilience, and a global perspective.
